Meet Isaiah Martinez, a graduating senior at Julesburg High School. Isaiah had a plethora of support through his high school years. His coaches, teacher and friends all pushed him to be a better student, athlete, and person overall. Isaiah gives credit to his mom for being the biggest influence on him in his high school years. Just like coaches and teachers Isaiah’s mom pushed Isaiah to be a man. This year has taken an unexpected turn, the COVID-19 virus has put millions of kids out of school. It has taken away the end of the seniors’ last year, the year that they have been working to get to for the past three years. Isaiah said, ”If I could change one thing about this year it would be us missing our final events of our senior year.” Isaiah has been getting through this “break” by keeping up on schoolwork and trying to stay focused for this last bit of his high school career. Isaiah was involved in sports throughout the years. He participated in football, wrestling, and track. His favorite sport was football because it was not only fun but gave him many useful skills. Football taught Isaiah discipline, leadership and respect. As we all know high school can be very stressful, during Isaiah’s stressful days he liked to focus his mind on sports and paint. Something that you may not know about Isaiah is that he loves to go to the lake and spend time with his friends there. Isaiah’s favorite memory of high school goes back to his love of football. His favorite memory was when the Sedgwick County football team won their fifth straight state championship, making history. His plans for college are to study business management at Colorado Mesa University. When Isaiah finishes college he would like to work in business marketing.
