K–1–2 Dusty Trails Adventure! Kindergarten, first, and second graders took an exciting field trip to Dusty Trails in North Platte—a day packed with fun and learning! Students (and adults!) got to ride horses, pet and hold live animals, explore a corn maze, launch corn from a corn cannon, try their hand at kids’ axe throwing, and pick the perfect pumpkin. The day kicked off with a duck race down the creek and wrapped up with a visit to a historic sod house. And of course, we can’t forget the zip line and giant slides that added even more excitement! What an amazing experience for everyone! A huge thank-you to our parent sponsors, bus driver Mr. Kizer, and the PTO for providing each student with a pumpkin.

Our first graders are learning how to solve real-world subtraction problems — through play! Students practiced taking away, comparing, and finding the difference while playing a hands-on subtraction board game. They rolled the dice, moved their pieces, and used subtraction to solve each challenge along the way. 💡 Nothing makes learning math more exciting than turning it into a game! 👏

🎒🧥 Lost & Found Alert! 🧥🎒
This week, our Lost & Found has turned into Hoodie Haven! We’ve got an overwhelming number of sweatshirts and hoodies, plus a bunch of other items just waiting to find their homes.
Parents & students: swing by the front office to claim your treasures, or drop a comment and we’ll make sure they get to the right hands!
Don’t let your favorite hoodie live its best life without you… 😅

A message from the Sedgwick County Department of Human Services:

Due to the government shut down, SNAP (food assistance) benefits as of now will not be issued for the month of November.  This is going to have a huge IMPACT on all of our Sedgwick County families, especially those with children. With limited resources and funding in Sedgwick County, there is no way possible to fund the $40,000 that goes out in SNAP benefits each month to families.

Clients will be receiving the information of their benefits being suspended for November from the state.  We are also relaying this information as they come into our office.  We have no idea what will happen if the government opens back up, what November benefits will look like, they might be prorated, etc,.  It will all depend on when the government opens up.

Sedgwick County has 3 food banks:

  • Ovid Methodist Church

  • Sedgwick County Department of Human Services

  • Julesburg Christian Church

There is also Commodity Distribution once a month at the Julesburg Christian Church.  There is no guarantee on what food will be on the truck when it arrives or how much, but would encourage families to try and go this month.  The following are the next two dates:

  • October 25th- 7am to 9am

  • November 26th- 7am to 9am

We are happy to take non-perishable food items at our food pantry along with monetary donations that would allow us to purchase food gift cards at the local grocery store, where families would be able to purchase milk, bread, eggs, cheese, etc that our pantry does not stock.

In this time of need, I'm hoping Sedgwick County can rally together and help those who are going to need it the most, given the timing of the holidays, it's going to be stressful for our families.

Breakfast is said to be the most important meal of the day. Students learned about popular breakfast foods in different countries. We even had a day of making waffles and bacon!

Third graders explored magnetism today! They became little scientists, searching around the classroom for different objects to test. Students predicted whether a magnet would pull each material or not, then tested their ideas to see what was magnetic. Lots of curiosity, discovery, and excitement filled the room as they learned what magnets attract—and what they don’t

Our preschoolers had some very special visitors this week — some of our local first responders! Introducing children to police officers, firefighters, and EMS teams helps them feel familiar and comfortable with these everyday heroes. Learning how to call for help and what to do in an emergency builds vital life skills and empowers children to stay calm and confident in a crisis. We’re so thankful to our community helpers for taking the time to teach, connect, and inspire our young learners! ❤️
