This week, our third graders kicked off an exciting kindness project! We're on a mission to gather cards filled with kind words from all 50 states and around the world by February 14. Over the past couple of days, our students have been writing kind messages to other participating classes. We're thrilled to already receive wonderful notes from friends in Germany, England, Denmark, and Mexico! Help us spread the love.

Teachers are the ultimate multi-tools, always ready to meet the needs of their students. In one day, they might:
🔧 Fix confidence with a pep talk.
🧰 Build curiosity through engaging lessons.
🛠 Solve problems as a mentor and guide.
📏 Measure progress and celebrate achievements.
🎨 Inspire creativity with out-of-the-box thinking.
📚 Share knowledge as a lifelong learner.
🤝 Offer a listening ear when life feels tough.
Whether they’re planners, motivators, counselors, cheerleaders, or role models, teachers shape lives far beyond the classroom walls. They equip students with the tools to grow, dream, and succeed.

Congratulations, Matthew Reichman! He earned the Lion Pride Call of the Day from Mrs. Ehnes. Matthew is to be commended for taking initiative in our classroom today following our weekly random acts of kindness event. While not asked or directed, he knows classroom maintenance is very important, he took the time to help others not only clean up their space but he personally cleaned up the floor space around the entire classroom without being asked. Then made sure all of our supplies were gathered and accounted for. Thank you Matthew for demonstrating Lion Pride!!!

The Sedgwick County Girls Volleyball team was recognized on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives on Tuesday, November 19, 2024 by the Honorable Greg Lopez. This recognition comes after the program’s third state championship in four years. Congressman Lopez noted the team’s teamwork and determination which will serve as an inspiration for future generations of high school athletes. Congratulations to the student-athletes in the Girls Volleyball program on this national recognition!

Have you seen what our advanced art students are up to? 🎨✨ They are using multiple mediums to create humanoid figures, all while delivering powerful social commentary through their projects! What themes do you think are most important in today’s art?

Congratulations to Noah Harens and Owen Harris for earning All State Honorable Mention in Football. We are proud of you!

The high school staff at JHS have created their very own tool belt equipped with the best tools to benefit their students. A compass has been added to be a constant reminder to follow the right direction. In life, it's easy to get distracted and lose your way from time-to-time, but having a compass will always lead you where you need to be!

🌟 Random Acts of Kindness at JHS! 🌟
Each week, students at JHS take a moment to brighten someone else's day by completing a random act of kindness. Here's how it works: they randomly draw a name, write an uplifting, encouraging message, and drop it in a special bucket to be received on Fridays. It's a beautiful way to "fill" someone's bucket with positivity! 💧✨
But today, the students took it to the next level! Instead of the usual raindrop, they created personalized snowflakes for their chosen schoolmate—each one unique and made with care. ❄️💖
This small but meaningful gesture reminds us all that kindness, big or small, can create a ripple of positivity and help us build a supportive, caring community here at JHS.

It’s often wise to “calculate” your next steps carefully. In essence, both calculators and schools play vital roles in the educational journey by providing support, resources, and opportunities for growth and learning. Just like a school nurtures and guides students through their learning journey, a calculator is an essential companion in the classroom! We may be able to solve the problems, but remember that we can take a quick second to check our work. Plus, we can always ask for help!

Measurement is an essential life skill that is best learned through hands-on experiences. In second grade, students are practicing measuring using both metric and customary units. As part of their learning, they first sorted items based on the appropriate type of measurement. Next, they searched for objects to measure, starting with an estimation of the measurement and then comparing it to the actual result.
